The trusted quality supported by traditional techniques

The technique of “Selecting hair” is a traditional technique passed down for more than 180 years in Kumano. And the other technique requires skilled hand and intuition based on the experience is “Dressing hair”. Mizuho preserves the tradition of manual labor, and does all the works in house from Selecting and Dressing hair to fabrication, mounting and inspection in an integrated system. Also, Mizuho is one of the few comprehensive manufacturers, who manufacture wooden molds called "Koma" used to shape the hair tip in house.
In the development of the OEM products (sold as the customer's end products), Mizuho values to understand "What the brush is used for?" and perceives what the customer is seeking for in order to accomplish the image the customer have in their mind 100%.  Trial models are made with hair tip that is well thought out for the shape, resilience and softness. With good judge and technical strengths gained by year's experience, Mizuho meets the expectation of the customers.  As for the procurement of raw materials, Mizuho goes to the field and confirms the quality, rather than leaving the matter to the vendor.

Through the integrated system manages from raw material to finished product in house and scrupulous services to the customers, Mizuho reinforces the trust relationship with "Mizuho Brush" user around the world. The "brushes as tool" has been changed according to the change of lifestyle, and Mizuho has created new products accordingly.
To the high requirement from makeup artists, manicurists and dental technicians who are particular about brushes, or general consumers pay a lot of attention to brushes, Mizuho responds with the traditional techniques of Kumano Fude and Mizuho's technical strength cultivated through OEM production for cosmetics brands, and provides the quality products to the world. All the brush produced by Mizuho is handmade. The "new possibility of the brush". Mizuho wants to achieve it through dialogues with customers and the good combination of management resources and external resources. It is a challenge of Mizuho to the magnificent history of Kumano's brush making continued for more than 180 years.

[In the pioneer days]
Having inherited know-how of brush making from his predecessor, Taiji Shakuda, the founder of Mizuho, went independent, and started make-to-order business.   An integrated system to perform from selecting/dressing hair to handle mounting/inspection in house was arranged.   In December 23, 1980, he incorporated his business and set up Mizuho Brush Co., Ltd.
[The turning point]
Built a new office building in 1997. Released a makeup brush brand "Hana Cosme" in 2003. Started to sell the products at special events in department stores and online. In 2004, receiving the support from JAPAN Brand Project by Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, participated in Maison&Objet Paris as a Kumano Fude company.
[2007]
Was identified as a "Primary company supports regional resources utilization promotion" (Sponsor: Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry). Participated in exhibitions in the United States (Anaheim, New York), as a part of JAPAN Brand Project.
[2008]
Released the flagship brand "Mizuho Brush". Started to sell at real stores in Tokyo and other cities. Exhibited the products at Cosmoprof Asia 2008 (Hong Kong), the leading trade fair in Asia for the beauty and wellness industry, for the first time.
[2009]
Was chosen for "Creation museum for the value of sensibility" (Sponsor: Ministry of Economy,Trade and Industry) and exhibited the products. Exhibited the products in "NIPPON MONOICHI-Exhibition of Living with Japanese-style" (Sponsor: Organization for Small and Medium Enterprises and Regional Innovation, JAPAN) in March. Was identified as an object of "Promising product for export discovery project by JETRO"(Sponsor: JETRO). Opened Mizuho Corporate website. Started Mizuho Brush online shop. Exhibited the products at "Cosmoprof Asia 2009".
[2010]
Was chosen for " JAPAN APEC 2010 Government exhibition" and exhibited the products. Exhibited at Japan pavilion in Shanghai World Expo 2010" (Sponsor: Central Federation of Societies of Commerce and Industry). Exhibited the products at "Cosmoprof Asia 2010". Celebrated 30th Anniversary of the founding in December 2010.
[2011]
Mizuho Brush MB series won "GOOD DESIGN AWARD 2011". Exhibited the products at "Cosmoprof Asia 2011".
[2012]
Exhibited at "The exhibition celebrated the 40th anniversary of the normalization of diplomatic relations between Japan and China”. Was chosen for the government exhibits for "IMF/World Bank Annual Meeting". Was chosen for "47 GOOD DESIGN" and exhibited. Participated "Texture and color sense research society of the Chugoku region" (Sponsor: Chugoku region industry creation center). Participated "Flow molding work shop" (Sponsor: JST). Was identified as an eligible company for "Hiroshima project - Human resources development for innovation" subsidy” (Sponsor: Hiroshima) Exhibited the products at "Cosmoprof Asia 2012". Was identified as an eligible company for "Support project for small and medium Monozukuri enterprise for prototype development" subsidy (Sponsor: Federation of Small Business) Participated an makeup event held in Isetan department store in Chengdu (China) and demonstrated Japanese style makeup in March. Opened "Mizuho Brush Labo". Started to use the labo as a shared place for product development, showroom and direct sales.

Because of tireless challenges and effort of predecessors, Kumano Fude is a world-famous brand today and acknowledged as "KUMANO".   Currently the brushes made in Kumano account for more than 90% of domestic production volume.  Mizuho is proud of its high quality and ability to respond the orders and request from famous cosmetics brands and artists.   Cosmetics brands and artists are pursuing "more beautiful and natural finishing of makeup".  In order to meet their expectation perfectly, it was necessary to repeat the works require precision while checking the impression from use again and again to find a solution.   Having a continued dialogue with customer is a basis of good craftsmanship. And the ideas from the dialogue were reflected to all the steps of brush making, from selecting the kind of hair, hair supplier and right hair tip volume on the brush, and for technical development.   Having a new designer to the own brand "Mizuho Brush" launched in 2008, "MB series" has been renewed to modern design.  Including that series, our variety of original makeup brushes attract increasing attention from around the world and admired by, such as, Hollywood makeup artists.

Has been exhibiting the products at "Cosmoprof Asia" held in Hong Kong, which is the trade fair in Asia for the beauty and wellness industry, since 2009.  Using the fair as the opportunities to announce the new products and for business talks, Mizuho succeeded recently in getting a big OEM contract with a distributor in Russia after careful credit investigations and contract negotiations.   Received inquires from other BRICs companies in 2012.
